WITH over 25 years’ experience in sport, I've worked with organisations such as the Lawn Tennis Association, The London Marathon, Adidas (UK), The Northern Ballet, The British Olympic Association and UK Athletics. I also have a wide personal experience of sports including cycling, running, rowing, dance, fencing, and adventure-racing. I represented England in tennis and have competed in international ultra-distance mountain and fell-running events (including races such as the infamous
Marathon des Sables - pictured right).
Originally working in sports marketing, I combined my interests in sport and healthcare in 2000, qualifying with honours in Sports Massage at the London School of Sports Massage. I then trained at the Northern Institute, Bury, in Advanced Remedial Massage, Electrotherapy and Manipulative Therapy, as well as Acupuncture for musculo-skeletal conditions at the Nottingham School of Biomechanics, Sports and Remedial Therapies, later attaining further skills including Dry-Needling, K-Taping and Biomechanical Assessment.
I've also worked with elite sporting individuals, British Olympic and Commonwealth squads, plus a variety of actors, musicians and performers. Although specializing in sports-related injuries, I treat a wide variety of people: those recovering from major illnesses and operations, keen amateur sportsmen and women, and people with ‘everyday’ aches and pains that can make life uncomfortable.
My specialism is analysing how people move, sit and stand, and assessing if this is appropriate to the demands of their life or sporting activity. I not only consider a holistic approach, diagnosing and treating the cause and well as the symptom of injury, I also work proactively to reduce pain, prevent injury, improve movement and maximise performance. An important part of my work is to ensure good communication with all practitioners involved - your GP, Personal Trainer, Consultant or Coach.
I am a long-standing member of the Sports Massage Association, The London & Counties Society of Physiologists, The Acupuncture Society and The Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council. I'm also a student member of BANT (British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Management); I'm currently studying for an MSc in Nutrition Science and Practice, and hope to combine this with my current work.
